FREDERICKSBURG, Va., Apr. 4, 2023 – Riphean Investments was a proud sponsor of the 2023 High School Innovation Challenge hosted by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division on Friday, March 31st. The event was held at the University of Mary Washington’s (UMW) Dahlgren Campus. Teams from twenty-two schools participated for the chance to win a $7,500 prize.
The event was attended by Riphean Investments Founder and Partner Joel Griffin and Vice President of Operations Victor Fuster. “We are proud to sponsor the 2023 High School Innovation Challenge,” said Griffin. “It is important to us to support the next generation of problem solvers working on national security issues, and we were inspired by the ingenuity of the participating teams.”
This was the second Innovation Challenge and was co-hosted by UMW, MITRE Corporation, the Fredericksburg Regional Military Affairs Council and King George Economic Development Authority. Twenty-five teams participated in a simulated exercise called Special Technical Object Recovery Mission (STORM) where they were tasked with programming robots to infiltrate hostile territory and navigate a challenging environment to recover a critical national security asset. The winner of this year’s challenge was the team from Rappahannock High School. Fredericksburg Christian and King George High School also placed in the top three.
